Parents have a legal responsibility to make sure that their children attend school on time, every day. It is not just the legality: if children are to progress it is vital that they do attend school on time, every day. We rely on parents’ support to make sure that they do. We also expect parents to let us know if a child is absent for any reason. Please speak to the teacher or write them a note. We will then decide whether the absence is authorized or unauthorized: we have a legal duty to publish information on the level of authorised and unauthorised absences. If there are problems with your child’s attendance and punctuality we ask our home-school link workers, or the educational social worker employed by Camden Local Education Authority to visit you at home to offer support.
Extended leave
We do not authorise holidays in term time. We follow the LA and DfE guidance which states that exceptional leave should only be granted in exceptional circumstances (for example, a bereavement). Medical evidence will be required for any absence the week before or after a school holiday. We believe it is important for all children to be in school on time and we appreciate your support in this area.
